COMESA in collaboration with FIC has organised a Regional Training on Financial Investigations and Asset Recovery for Law Enforcement Agencies
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in collaboration with the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC)-Rwanda, has organised a five-day Regional Training on Financial Investigations and Asset recovery for Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) from November 28th, 2022 up to December 02nd, 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda. Participants are from Eswatini, Rwanda, Seychelles and Uganda.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Jeanne Pauline Gashumba, the Director General of FIC emphasized the importance of having competent and well-trained LEAs practitioners to conduct relevant and accurate financial investigations and assets recovery.
“It is very important for countries to remove the incentive for engaging in criminal practices by depriving the perpetrators and others from the benefit of financial crimes, in order to achieve that, countries must have competent and well-trained LEAs capable to freeze, seize and confiscate proceeds of crimes.” - Ms. Gashumba
She urged everyone to make good use of the training opportunity to ensure they learn from one another, actively participate, share experiences and ask more clarifications for effective understanding.
