FIC in collaboration with COMESA held a two-day workshop on AML/CFT/CFP matters

Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) in collaboration with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), organized a two-day workshop on " Understanding Anti Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing Terrorism(CFT) and Counter Financing of Proliferation (CFP) requirements, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendations and Methodology" starting from 07th to 08th September 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda.  It aimed at equipping participants  with skills and competences related  to AML/CFT/CFP crimes.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Gashumba Jeanne Pauline, the Director General of FIC highly appreciated COMESA for the support offered to Rwanda and urged participants to utilize skills acquired from the workshop and reminded them that fighting against the above-mentioned crimes requires collaboration, combined effort and capacity.

She assured COMESA how dedicated the country is, in improving the AML/CFT regime, demonstrated by putting in place a lot of mechanisms to ensure good outcomes of the 2nd Round of Mutual Evaluation expected to start in October 2022.

Ms. Elizabeth Mutunga, the Head of Governance, Peace and Security of COMESA expressed delight at the opportunity for COMESA to hold its first AML/CFT event in Rwanda.

She emphasized the significance of ensuring that all countries in the region strengthen their AML/CFT programs and promised that COMESA would continue to walk with Rwanda in its efforts in AML/CFT regime.

The workshop brought together 33 officials from various supervisory authorities including Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Trade and Industry, National Bank of Rwanda, FIC, Institute of Certified Public Accountants Rwanda, Capital Market Authority, Rwanda Bar Association and reporting persons including  all Commercial banks, Real Estates as well as  Cooperative banks.
