Rwanda assumed the ESAAMLG Chairmanship
29 August 2025: Rwanda officially assumed the one-year Chairmanship of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG), marking a milestone in promoting financial integrity and regional cooperation. Hon. Yusuf Murangwa, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), took over the Presidency of the ESAAMLG Council of Ministers for 2025/2026 from Ethiopia during meetings held in Addis Ababa from 22–30 August 2025.
During the same meetings, Ms. Jeanne Pauline Gashumba, Director General of the Financial Intelligence Centre, who also began her responsibilities as Chairperson of the ESAAMLG Task Force of Senior Officials, attended the high-level sessions alongside other members of Rwanda’s delegation. The discussions focused on advancing FATF standards, strengthening regional cooperation, adopting Follow-Up Reports, reviewing re-rating requests, and sharing best practices to reinforce AML/CFT frameworks across the region.
